The Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Chairman Prof TG Sitharam announced plans to launch a placement portal for engineering and diploma students studying in technical institutes in rural and tribal areas. “Around 1500 out of a total of 3000 technical institutes would fall under this criteria,” he said at a press conference in College of Engineering Pune Technology (COEP).
“The portal is ready and industry players are already part of it,” said the chairman. “We can expect to launch it in one or two months.”
This is one of the several measures being taken by the AICTE to promote technological innovation and entrepreneurship that incorporates design thinking. In association with the Ministry of Education Innovation Cell (MIC), the body is launching ‘Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship Bootcamps’ in six places, starting tomorrow.
These bootcamps are five-day experiential learning based programs open
to engineering, science, management and design students. College and
school students will be trained and hand-held through the process of
ideation, development in accordance with design principles and pitching.
“We have funding upto 10 lakh each for 100 ideas,” said Vice Chairman
of AICTE, Abhay Jere.
