The All India Momin Conference and Anjuman-I-Islam celebrate legacy of Savitribai Phule with Reeta Ramamurthy Gupta
Mohammed Wajihuddin in conversation with India’s favorite biographer Reeta Ramamurthy Gupta on Savitribai Phule and Fatima Sheikh
The All India Momin Conference and Anjuman-I-Islam came together in a spectacular event to celebrate the launch of ‘Savitribai Phule-Unveiling Her Life, Relationships, and Legacy’, a compelling biography written by India’s favorite biographer Reeta Ramamurthy Gupta. The book not only pays tribute to the indomitable spirit of Savitribai Phule, a pioneering figure in India’s education history but also shines a spotlight on the often-overlooked contributions of India’s first Muslim woman teacher, Fatima Sheikh.
The evening’s highlight was the engaging conversation between the
author, Reeta Ramamurthy Gupta, and Senior Journalist Mohammed
Wajihuddin, who delved into the life stories of Savitribai Phule and
Fatima Sheikh.
Author Reeta Ramamurthy Gupta spoke, “For me the cover of the book
represents India. Featuring Savitribai Phule, Sagunabai Kshirsagar and
Fatima Sheikh outlined in the colours of India and children in the
Ashoka Chakra blue, readers will understand why they deserve our
attention, our gratitude and our respect. This book in English is just a
beginning and I would request the support of scholars to translate this
into every possible language.”
The book launch featured a remarkable gathering of renowned personalities and intellectuals. Mr. Feroz Ahmed Ansari, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court and President of the All India Momin Conference, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, lending his support to the celebration of education and empowerment. Guests of Honour included Shri Kapil Patil (MLC), representing the Teacher Constituency. The event was presided over by Mr. Mushtaq Antulay, Vice-President of Anjuman-I-Islam, who emphasized the significance of education in shaping a progressive society and the role played by these exceptional women in promoting education.
Attendees also had the exclusive opportunity to purchase the book, published by HarperCollins, at a special discounted rate available only at the venue.
The event served as a reminder that education transcends boundaries and remains a powerful tool for societal transformation.
