Google launches AI Mode in India with advanced reasoning and multimodality
Google announced the launch of its AI Mode in India that will allow users to ask longer questions and is designed to better handle exploratory queries and more complicated tasks.
Powered by a custom version of Gemini 2.5, Google said that AI Mode will
answer user questions that would have previously required multiple
searches. AI Mode uses what Google calls a query fan-out technique,
where the question is divided into subtopics and the system sends out
multiple related queries simultaneously on users’ behalf.
“You can not only access high-quality web content, but also tap into
fresh, real-time sources like the Knowledge Graph, info about the real
world, and shopping data for billions of products,” said Hema Budaraju,
Google Vice President, Product Management, Search.
AI Mode is built into the Search experience and users in India can
access it by signing up in Labs to try out the new feature in Google
Search. The company warned that not all results might be right since the
AI product is in the early stages, but said that it will show web
search results when it does not have high confidence in the AI-powered
responses.
