GATE 2026 registration opens August 25, check eligibility and exam pattern

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2026 registration window has been announced. IIT Guwahati has launched the official portal and will conduct the exam across four days in February. Candidates must apply by September 25 to avoid late fees or by October 6 with an additional charge.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 registration will commence on August 25, 2025, via the newly launched official website gate2026.iitg.ac.in.

The examination will be organised by IIT Guwahati, who will also oversee registrations and applications this year.

The online registration portal will remain open without late fee until September 25. Inclusively, there is an extended window with a late fee until October 6. Candidates are advised to register well in advance to avoid last-minute issues.

Here are the key dates to remember for GATE 2026 registration:

  • Online registration opens: August 25, 2025

  • Last date for regular registration: September 25, 2025

  • Final date with late fee: October 6, 2025

  • GATE 2026 exam dates: February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026

  • Results expected: March 19, 2026

Candidates can apply for up to two test papers, with one application form covering both selections.

The examination is entirely objective and computer-based, and conducted in English. Question formats may include MCQs, multiple select (MSQ), and numerical answer type (NAT) responses.

GATE 2026: ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

A candidate is eligible to apply for GATE 2026 if they:

  • Are in the third or higher year of an undergraduate programme or have already completed a degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities from a recognised institute.
