Pune, 9th April 2022: Maharashtra Health Minister Dr Rajesh Tope, who is also holding Skill Development and Entrepreneurship portfolios, today said that the syllabus taught in MBA & PGDM colleges needs to be industry-relevant to make students employable. Otherwise, students will just pass the courses but will remain jobless.

He was speaking as Chief Guest at the 11th Annual Convocation Ceremony of the Pune Institute of Business Management (PIBM), Pune.

Raman Preet, Founder and Chairman of PIBM Group of Institutes, was present on the occasion along with Prof. Jahar Saha (Former Director – IIM Ahmedabad), Arvind Hali (Managing Director & CEO – Motilal Oswal Home Loans), Manish Rohtagi (Managing Director – Stallion Auto Keke Limited, Nigeria), and others.

A total of more than 500 students from Batch 2018-20 who successfully completed their MBA & PGDM programs were conferred with the degrees at the hands of minister Mr. Rajesh Tope. These students were from the branches like Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Business Analytics, and Operations.

“If we are teaching an absolute syllabus which is far behind the time then it has no meaning. Students will pass out with their degrees but they will be jobless. Teaching should give hands-on training. Experiencing and learning is the key”, Tope said.

While guiding the students, he added, “You should learn life values like morality, ethics, humility and principles. Students nowadays want to be rich quickly through shortcuts. This should not be the approach toward life. You should have apathy towards the poor and be a compassionate and peace-loving human being. Today honesty is the costliest thing. You should be honest to succeed in life.”

PIBM Chairman Raman Preet depicted the journey of the PIBM in his speech and said that the group which made a humble beginning in the year 2007 has grown to five educational institutions and is offering top class education to students from across India. The Institute is also associated with several top business leaders from diverse industries to mentor and train the students. Now he plans to start Skills University as well as Digital University in Pune.

Minister Tope, while addressing the gathering, said, “Come up with the appropriate proposal and I will ensure both universities are established. Digital University has a great future. Maharashtra will be the first state to make this idea into existence.”

The event also saw the presence of eminent business leaders from well-known companies such as Dr. Ritu Anand (Chief Leadership & Diversity Officer – Tata Consultancy Services, Mumbai), Nagaraj Garla (Executive Director – IDBI Bank), Baskar Babu Ramachandran (Co-Founder & CEO – Suryoday Small Finance Bank Limited), and Vivek Sharma (Dy. Managing Director – Polycab India Limited, Mumbai).”
