Engineering Available in 12 Indian Languages

From the forthcoming academic session 2022-23, BTech second year students of Engineering Colleges in 18 states will be able to study in 12 indian languages besides Hindi. According to a senior AICTE official, prime minister Narendra Modi had decided in his National education Policy to give engineering students the opportunity to study in indian languages. Last year, first year engineering students were offered the opportunity to study in eight indian languages. For the upcoming academic session 2022-23, students will now be able to study in 12 indian languages. 1500 teachers will be trained to teach second year engineering students in these 12 indian languages.

 

Studies on seven subjects in 19 institutions

According to a senior official, seven subjects are being taught in these indian languages in the first year of BTech program in 19 institutes in engineering colleges in different states. Of these, more than 255 students have been admitted for B.Tech in these indian languages. Apart from this, ITI also plans to offer engineering diploma programs in indian languages.



Under this, 12 books for first year students at diploma level and 10 books at degree level have been prepared in nine indian languages. In addition to these nine indian languages, AICTE has started translation work in three more indian languages, Assamese, urdu and Malayalam. A total of 291 authors, translators, reviewers and linguists have made efforts to complete the work related to first year books in the last one year period.


 

Plan to cover 500 colleges

AICTE plans to launch BTech in indian languages in 500 colleges by the academic session 2023-24. For this, work is underway to translate B.Tech third year books in 15 indian languages. Apart from this, preparations are underway to add about 30,000 students through 500 technical colleges. Apart from this, all the second and third year courses will be made available digitally only on BTech platform.
