Civil engineering students will get an opportunity to intern with the National Highways Authority of India, NHAI. This internship program is offered by the Ministry of Road Transport
and Highway to the final-year civil engineering students from NITs,
IITs, and government and private engineering colleges. Interested
students can apply for the internship at AICTE's internship portal from
July 15, 2022.
NHAI
will hire students for various projects, this will provide practical
experience to the students and will be a very effective training
program. Students will be provided first-hand exposure in the
infrastructure development field.
This will be a paid internship where in students pursuing BTech
with a minimum of 7 CGPA would be given a monthly stipend of Rs 10,000
per month, while the Masters pursuing students will receive Rs 15,000.
Vice-chairman
of AICTE, MP Poonia, said: "The interns will work in domains such as
road designs, construction and mechanical processing of roads. This will
help students learn teamwork in various other departments including
Chemical, Electrical and Mechanical. A six-month-long internship would
earn 18 credits. One credit would require them to put in 30 hours of
practical training.
The
internship in courses like civil engineering is very important for the
students to understand the actual possibilities of working in the field.
AICTE has collaborated with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs
(MoHUA) to provide internships to 20,000 students.
M Rawani, director, National Institute of Technology,
NIT pointed out the lack of employability in the Engineering sector and
said such opportunities will provide better exposure and experience to
the students which will help them in finding job along with good
education.
