The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2023 is scheduled to be conducted on February 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th, 2023. Check out tips to crack GATE 2023 in 2 months.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination conducted in India annually in order to test the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science for admission into master's programmes and job opportunities in Public Sector Units (PSUs). GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technologies on behalf of the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

The exam is scheduled to take place on the February 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th, 2023 as per the official notification. The government in a recent public statement mentioned that it aims to offer federal government jobs to 10 lakh individuals over a period of 18 months. This has caused an increased interest in the ongoing discourse regarding the GATE examination.

Here are some expert suggested tips to prepare for the GATE examination in 60 days, that can boost candidates' preparation as the exam approaches:

1. ANALYZING PREPARATION STRATEGY:

The GATE syllabus is extensive; thus, candidates can apply several approaches depending on their level of preparation. They can achieve this by using the approaches outlined below:

If a candidate has just begun their preparation, it is essential for them to refer to question papers from previous years to identify and focus on those topics that carry more weightage than the others. By adopting this approach, candidates will be able to study all important topics. However, candidates may not be thorough with the entire syllabus.

If the candidates have been preparing passively over the past few months, they must categorize topics on the syllabus and label them as strong, weak, and unknown. While it is advisable to pay less attention to unknown topics, candidates must try to cover important unknown and weaker topics as well. Further, candidates must capitalize on topics that they are confident in to boost their confidence and reduce exam anxiety.

GENERAL APTITUDE AND MATHEMATICS - THE LOW HANGING FRUITS:

The General Aptitude and Mathematics sections carry 30 out of 100 marks in the GATE 2023 exam, making them crucial components. These sections are designed to test the student's aptitude and understanding of general engineering mathematical concepts as well as their reasoning and logical aptitude. Candidates must use these to their advantage during the last 2 months of their preparation.

It is imperative that candidates practice questions from the Math and Aptitude sections every day for the remaining months. To streamline this process, candidates can refer to question papers from previous editions of GATE to familiarize themselves with the kinds of questions that have

appeared in these sections in the past. Lastly, it is crucial for candidates to solve multiple sample papers for these sections.

2. MAKE TIMETABLE FOR THE NEXT TWO MONTHS:

An effective method for candidates to boost their preparation during the last two months before the examination is to design a week-wise timetable that specifies the topics and concepts to be covered, along with a timeline for the same. This helps to reduce anxiety related to completing the syllabus and increases the confidence of the candidates as well.

3. METHODOLOGY AND EXECUTION:

The GATE examination is mostly analytical in nature. Therefore, it is vital for candidates to brush up on fundamental concepts and apply them to numerical questions. Candidates must make short notes for revision while they study, as those will be instrumental during the last days of revision. The key to solving questions of a numerical nature in the GATE exam is accuracy, which comes from consistent practice.

Merely practicing questions will not be sufficient to crack the GATE exam; candidates must analyze areas of weakness and revise them to improve their performance. By following this process after each topic is covered, candidates will be able to remain grounded in their preparation efforts.

4. SELF MOTIVATION IS THE KEY:

A key requirement of the preparation strategy during the last two months is maintaining motivation levels. Candidates must not feel disheartened by their performance initially, as errors are bound to take place. Instead, they must use their initial performance as stepping stones and learn from them in order to improve. After all, Rome was not built in a day.

5. PROVIDE ENOUGH REST TO THE BODY AND MIND:

It is extremely essential for candidates to understand that practicing continuously for hours is neither practical nor healthy. Hence, they must take short breaks between their intense study schedules. They must spend time on their hobbies and activities that calm their minds during breaks to remain motivated and pressure-free.

The eating habits of all candidates must be such that they don't suffer from any health-related issues, and they should ensure they get adequate hours of sleep. This will help them cope with the anxiety and prepare for the exam more effectively with a healthy body and mind.

6. AVOID DISTRACTIONS AND REMAIN CONSISTENT:

As D-day approaches, it is essential for candidates to remain consistent. The time wasted during preparation results in a ripple effect for the next few days. Time management and consistency are key factors for strong preparation during the last 60 days.

7. GET IN TOUCH WITH A GOOD MENTOR:

Having a good mentor helps candidates gain the feedback required to proceed in the right direction. Lastly, a mentor will also provide emotional support to candidates during periods of stress and help them overcome difficulties of any kind as they prepare for the GATE exam, making them a valuable part of any candidate's preparation strategy.
