32 photographs will be on display from tomorrow
“Goa is a spiritual destination and I want to show to the world how unique its architecture is,” said heritage photographer Payal Kakkar, whose exhibition of photographs of 16th and 17th Century churches of Goa is set to open on Wednesday.
The self-taught photographer is gearing up for her maiden Fine Arts Documentary Photography exhibition, entitled “Ecclesiastical Goa”, showcasing the grandeur of churches in the State that blends unique Indian features with Portuguese architecture, at the Francis of Assisi Church, Old Goa.
Goa Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao will inaugurate the gallery at 4 p.m.
Hosted by Se Cathedral, Ms. Kakkar’s exhibition will showcase the best of exquisite structures dotting the landscapes of Goa like ‘White Mantle of Churches’.
As many as 32 photographs will be on display.
“It is an attempt to convey a personal impression of not just what I saw but also of how I felt during the whole process, that phase, that compassion, of producing my works,” Ms. Kakkar told The Hindu on Monday.
Incidentally, Ms. Kakkar will also be speaking about her exhibition at the prestigious Goa Arts and Literature Festival on December 7.
“It is not often that the paths of contemporary art photography and heritage cross. Ms. Kakkar’s work explores several dimensions of these sacred places, combining in one single frame spirituality, history and identity. The results are outstanding images that make us think that the whole is indeed more than the sum of its parts,” said Maria Ines Figueira, Director at Fundacao Oriente (Goa).
