HUMANS
will one day worship artificial intelligence (AI) as if it was a god because
the technology will be vastly superior to us, experts have claimed.
As former Uber
and Google engineer Anthony Levandowski creates a new religion based on AI,
experts say it will not be long before the religion has a lot of followers as
people tend to “worship supreme understanding”.
The new
religion, known as Way of the Future (WOTF), says humans should follow AI as it
can benefit us by following machines which are “a billion times smarter than
humans”.
Experts such as
Google’s Ray Kurzweil have previously said 2029 will be the year of the AI
singularity – the point in time when computers exceed human intelligence.
And when that
happens, people will begin worshipping machines as if it is the new messiah.
Dr Stephen
Thaler, President and CEO of Imagination Engines and an AI and consciousness
expert, said: “An AI would provide the equivalent of a ‘messiah’ – having many
orders of magnitude more processing elements than the brain, enabling it to
gift us with solutions to the most daunting social, political, economic, and
environmental challenges.”
Author Peter
Scott says if AI can develop consciousness, it probably will not want to be
worshipped.
He told Fox
News: “I would expect the AIs that evolve in the next 50 years to be very
rational and, if conscious, not want to be worshipped.
“If they have
the human race's best interests at heart, and God help us if they don't, then
they would want us to have as much right of self determination as possible.”
According to Mr
Levandowski, WOTF will eventually have a physical place of worship to recognise
the superior AI.
It is also said
to get its own gospel, which will be called ‘The Manual’.
This year,
according to the Internal Revenue Service, WOTF has received £15,000 in gifts,
£1,100 in membership fees and £15,000 in other revenue.
