To prepare students for the competitive
world, the Department of Technical Education (DTE) has decided to revise the
diploma textbooks for the polytechnic students, in State colleges. The
department credited the new changes to changing times and to help make the
students industr y-ready.
Recently, the DTE wrote to the
Department of Higher Education seeking permission to revise the textbooks. The
textbooks were last revised in the 2015.
Once the department gives a nod, the
technical education department will go ahead with the revision,which will to be
adopted for the 2020-2021 academic year. According to the statistics there are
over 82 State-run polytechnic colleges, 44 aided, and 174 unaided polytechnic
colleges in the State.
The All India Council for Technical
Education (AICTE) recently released a model curriculum for nine courses, which
the universities could adopt. The AICTE has also stressed on all engineering
curriculum being adept for industry needs. The DTE is also set to adopt these
recommended.

The DTE confirmed involving industry
experts in the revision committee. “We are planning to rope in people from the

Officials also said that the textbook
will be revised with certain concepts getting dropped and new, industry-relevant
topics added.
The department has also decided that
every three to five years, the curriculum will undergo revision to ensure that
it meets the demands of the industry requirements.
