Hyderabad: At 13, this social entrepreneur and app developer is
the youngest delegate at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017, which got
underway at Hyderabad International Convention Centre on Tuesday. Meet seventh
grader Hamish Finlayson, who has set up his enterprise — Moonshot
Industries.global — and also developed socially-relevant apps and games at an
age when most kids are busy grappling with teenage angst.
The Australian teen has
developed five socially relevant apps, including his first game LitterbugSmash,
which is about keeping the sea plastic-free. “I started at a competition called
Young ICT Explorers, where one uses technology to find solutions to world
problems. I decided to make avideo game to inform and encourage people to not
litter,” says Hamish. What makes his journey even more incredible is that he’s
not an ordinary kid—he refused to let his battle with autism get in the way of
his success and instead, made it his passion. “I have autism and so does my
dad. At times when I do things that people with autism do, people give me
strange looks...I’m trying to teach people what it (ASD) is all about.” He is
now working on his sixth app — a virtual reality game on road safety, to help
kids, especially those with ASD, cross the road.
