KARNATAKA: TEEN SELECTED FOR SCI-TECH FEST IN TUNISIA


Yet again, Aneesha Nayak a first PUC (PCBH) student at St Aloysius College has been selected to participate in the International Festival of Engineering Science and Technology (I-Fest) in Tunisia in March next year. This year she won the gold medal at I-FEST² held in the beginning of the year in Tunisia for her project on “Hydrophobicity of Colocasia as Wall Protector.”

The nine-day international festival of Engineering Science and Technology is organized by ATAST- the Tunisan Association for the future of Science and Technology, open for all students and supervisors aged between 14-24, and even parents and professors. It is where all participants get a chance to get rid of boredom, have fun and even create. 

The festival is born from a desire to bring the world’s young scientists together. The competition is not about promoting professional excellence, it will also to promote inter cultural dialogue and co-operation, through the involvement of students and experts from many different country.

Speaking to Bangalore Mirror, Aneesha Nayak said, “This is the second time I will be participating in the festival and representing the county. I have received an invite to participate and I’m currently working on a project focusing on unearthing the component responsible for anti- microbial property of Plectranthus. The research along with Nivedita, a Biology lecturer from St Aloysius College, is at an important phase and we are confident of positive results,” she said.

Last year, Aneesha also won a bronze medal for the project on colocasia at the I-SWEEEP, (International Sustainable World Energy, Engineering, and Environment Project)- Project Olympiad being held at Houston in the United States of America. 


She is also one of India’s young surfers. She has now opted for crowd funding on ImpactGuru so that her tour abroad is sponsored. She said, “I am looking forward to making the country proud next year too. The average expense for the tour is about Rs 2.5- 3 lakhs. I decided to opt for crowd funding as I am looking forward pursue my studies in the field of Science and also undergo surf training to represent India at the Olympics. I am raised by a single mother and it is very difficult for her to single-handedly fund for my education, research and sport,” she said.
