To provide a
platform to the budding pharmacists of the country, a two-day national level
competition ‘Students Pharmacy Skill Competition’ (SPSC) 2017 was held at
Technocrats Institute of Technology (TIT) Bhopal on Wednesday.
It is to be
noted that SPSC is organised every year in the last week of November.
The purpose of
the Students Pharmacy Skills Competition is to increase pharmacy students'
awareness of the importance of the pharmacist's role in direct patient care.
In the
competition, students work on case studies in self-selected teams of two. Teams
compete by demonstrating their skills in assessing patient information and
current therapy, identifying and prioritizing drug therapy problems,
identifying treatment goals, and recommending a pharmacy care plan. A panel of
evaluators determines the winners of the competition using the criteria
provided. During the competition there were four round wherein the students had
to demonstrate their skills. The first round was all about the Practical Based
Skill Evalution. Under this section the teams were given case studies and
solving them with their abilities was the task.
In the next
round, i.e. Problems Solving Abilities, the students were asked to solve a rare
problem with which the patient was suffering.
In The next
round, the students had to present their practical working models. A lot of
innovation was seen in this round, as the students used their skills to present
their working models.
