Vijayawada: Vikas
Educational Institutions organised a national-level IT fest called VikasIT at
its campus in Nunna, near Vijayawada, on Wednesday. Students from Andhra
Pradesh, Telangana and other states participated in the fest and presented
their theses. Dr E. Siva Nagi Ragi, Chief Executive Officer of the Cultural
Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati, inaugurated the fest by lightening the
lamp.
Speaking on the
occasion, he said that engineering students had the capacity to become
researchers and come up with new inventions without being dependent on foreign
countries. “Indian students have plenty of knowledge and several Indians are in
high positions in prominent companies like Google,” he said.
G. Narayana Rao,
chairman of the Andhra Arts Academy, said that the state government planned
to introduce Telugu-medium courses. About 250 projects and inventions were on
display at VikasIT. Guests were impressed by the students’ work. The
students of Potti Sriramulu College of Engineering presented a device to reduce
the number of road and railway accidents. “It is a small piece of
equipment which can be connected to any vehicle, and it can help signal
oncoming vehicles,” said one student from the college. Guests were
especially intrigued by a robot developed to rescue children from borewells.
C. Dimpu Deepthi
and D. Sneha Priya, students who were part of the development team, said, “The
robot operates by connecting to a cell phone. It can easily be taken to any
place and used to supply food, water and any other things to children
accidentally trapped in borewells.” The fest was attended by N. Narsi Reddy,
the chairman of the Vikas Educational Institutions; N. Satyanarayana Reddy, the
secretary; and principals Dr Ramana and Dr Rammohan, among others.
